there are mixed veiws on this matter people keep saying that second cousins are different things, i thought cousins are cousins as in your parents sisters/ brothers daughters / sons, and second cousins are someones cousins cousins (not blood related) ? im confused any help. wow ive actually made use of this random topic!
As far as I understand it, your cousin is your auntie/ uncle's child. Your second cousin would be your mother/ father's cousin, or your cousin's son/ daughter. I always thought it was like your mum's nan, is your great nan. So instead of saying great for cousins you say second.
And you're right - what a random section. I'm going to think up some family Q's now.

If you click here, that will link you to a website that enables you to calculate the meaning of family relationships - such as second cousin twice removed' etc - quite easily.
First cousins are those who have the same grandparents but not the same parents Second cousins are those who have the same great-grand-parents but not the same grandparents Third cousins are those who have the same great-great-grandparents but not the same great-grandparents etc.
The children of your first cousins are called your first cousins once-removed (downwards), and the first cousins of your parents are your first-cousins once-removed (upwards). The grandchildren of your first cousins are first-cousins twice-removed (downwards) etc.
