I am trying to clean an old brass door knocker. Any ideas??

Make sure it isn't varnished. If it is try to remove the varnish with acetone (nail varnish remover). Then polish with Brasso.

Brasso is amazing stuff.

It'll work on most polished metals and works great on stainless steel - works especially well on my car exhaust.
