Paper Plates???

Do Jewish people eat off of paper plates, if so, why?

I would say that not as a matter of course, they use paper plates just like anyone else. Nobody I know who is Jewish has any strange aversion tousing them - why do you ask?

I ask as a collegue of mine saw "a life of grime" on tv,the binmen said that there was a large amount of waste (mainly paper plates and plastic cutalery!) in the Jewish communities.

Perhaps they just do a lot of entertaining of children?

The Jewish religion requires that meat products and dairy products are not eaten together; and that separate utensils are used for preparing and serving meat and dairy food, respectively. Therefore, an orthodox Jewish household will have completely separate sets of utensils and crockery for meat and dairly food. But, possibly, it is sometimes more convenient simply to use disposable, paper plates.

A Jewish home will often have a good store of disposable plates and utensils - for reasons that Geofbob made evident. But as long as the family doesn't mind cleaning up after itself frequently (!) it won't use these plates as a matter of-course. It takes a long time (weeks) for a Jewish kitchen to become kosher when its new residents move in. So paper plates serve a purpose in terms of the preparation and serving of food in the meantime.
