given a dvd for Christmas

I was given a DVD for Christmas of my favorite film the only problem is that it is in the wrong format it is ntsc and not pal and my DVD player is not multi regional so I cant play it any ideas anyone

Hi Manxbiker,
I have looked everywhere I know but it seems that no-one knows of a hack for this player. Sorry I have not been able to help. The only thing I can suggest is a trip to Currys for one of their cheap Matsui DVD players ( DVD228 for example ) which can be hacked with ease.

Even a multi-region hack won't work ... if it's NTSC and you have PAL equipment

Ive had dvds from the states and theyve worked with a hack on a UK machine...so it could do.

It would be a good thing to look for a region free dvd player as it opens up a bigger dvd buying market for you ..trawl the net for some very reasonably priced machines..Sometimes buying from the US can be cheaper than here even with the higher postal charges.

I got a multi-region Dvd player from amazon for �20

there's similar ones here - 0ne for �19

Just read Naz's comment - I'd had US, Japanese , Korean and Scandinavian DVDs and they all worked - and no it wasn't that type of scandinavian disc - it was the original of that one where Al Pacino is a cop and can't sleep.... and I can't remember what it was called !!!

You can rip it to PC, then burn using Nero, and it will give you the option of converting to PAL

Do what Ugly_bob suggests - copy onto your pc using shrink or similar (free downloads) and make a pal copy. VVVVVVV easy.

Search google for " DVD Hacks " look for your DVD player and follow the instructions on how to unlock it .This will make it multi region.
