Are you in Scotland? The law is very different there.

Sounds odd without knowing all the details. The funds can only be confiscated by a court, cant they? Why did they take it? Is this another homework question?

Yes I stay in Scotland. It would appear that I am due couple of hundred pounds in Council Tax and the sheriff officers have decided to take all the money out of my bank without informing me!!!!

The only body with a legal right to deduct money from you bank account without your authorisation is the Child Support Agency. a local council should not be doing that
