The voltage throughout Europe and its islands (Madeira and Canaries included) is similar to that in the UK. There has been a convention running at least as long as since immediately post-war to unify plugs but narrow national interests, stubborness and plain arrogance have up to now prevented any useful progress and as a result there is still the nonsense of different plugs and sockets in different countries. Your only problem will be ensuring you have the correct plug on a UK appliance or else an adaptor - you are almost certain to find you need a two pin type. The UK plug (either three pin or the UK style two pin) is not useful in any other European country.
