What is the procedure for calculating land area using only the Lat/Long coords from a GPS device.I am comfortable with Trigonometry;spreadsheets & CAD programs

well I'm no expert so this might be a crude method but I think that one minute of longitude is 1 nautical mile. 1 nm = 1.852 km. I'm sure you can work it out from there.

to add to my previous answer, 1 minute of arc of the earth's surface does actually vary slightly...from 6108 feet at pole to 6046 at equator. 1 foot = 0.3048 m. suppose it depends on how accurate you need your answer as to whether you bother taking the variation into account or just use an 'average' value
