in a few weeks i am goin to Amsterdam for 2 days. what would people recommend the essential things to do/visit are,

Eat loads of danish pastries. Yum!!!

My number 1 is the Van Gogh museum, a huge collection of paintings arranged chronologically through his whole life. Canal cruises are nice. You could probably leave the red light district to the boys and the hash shops to the really heavy dopers, but other tourists flock to them. Oh, and Anne Frank's house.

1. Anne Franks house. Go early or you'll be stuck in a queue for ever.
2.The Heineken Experience. It's NOT a brewery trip although you do get a couple of drinks as part of the admission fee. A great couple of hours with some fantastic special effects.
3. Rembrandts House.
4. Canal cruise
5. The Van Gogh museum.

Watch where you put your feet as Amsterdam must be dog poo capital of the world!

Visit a diamond musuem, it was free the last time I went

Canal cruise and hop on hop off

Have a walk around the flower market

Rijksmuseum (spelling dodgy) think that is free as well
