Selling on Ebay
8 Answers
I have just sold an item on ebay for the 1st time and not quite sure how it works.
The buyer has said he's payed but I have not received any confirmation from payal or ebay to confirm this. My paypal account says that hasn't recieved any money, does it take a few days to clear into the account?
Just want to be 100% before I send the item.

PayPal payments usually show up quite quickly, and you get an email to confirm payment. Sometimes it can be in the form of an e-cheque, which takes up to 10 days (usually much less) to clear.
When did your listing end and when did the buyer say he had paid?

I sold on e-bay and the payer paid by paypal. I got an e-mail immediately from pay pal confirming this. when I bought on e-bay the money did not leave my account for about four days. I would access " my e-bay" and look on sold items and see if anything shows if buyer has paid. Do not send anything unless you are certain, I have been stung once.
I too sold for the first time on eBay last week and was a little confused about it all. I had an email off PayPal saying the guy had paid (I have paid through PayPal before when buying off eBay)....but on looking at My Account, there were no funds in it....Looking to the right of the screen showed me a 'To Do List'....I then found out that PayPal send you a confirmation code which you have to follow the link to then activate your account to recive funds (or something like that) - I got them to re-send the code (as I didn't know where the original had gone), and then followed the link, and then the funds showed up in my PayPal account. They then take about 5-10 working days to transfer to my bank account. Hope this helps....I was confused at the time....I was VERY hungover though - good luck.
i only recbntly found out that if you have your paypal linked to your bank account and as a buyer, you dont have any back up form of payment (eg credit card details) it takes about 10 days t get to the sellers paypal account, leading to the buyer thinking theyve paid, but the seller not recieving the funds
Hi c.shallow.
You have stated that the buyer has said he's paid.
Do you mean he's contacted you personally by email etc. and said so or have you noticed that he has clicked the "Payment sent" in your "My eBay" section alongside the item sold.
If the latter, then it's possible he has marked Payment sent and has actually posted your Payment in the form of a Personal cheque, Postal order, etc.
You always receive a confirmation email from Paypal when a payment has been made to you.
Even if it is an "echeque" etc. you will always be told in what form from Paypal.
Hope this helps.
Andy.
