There is a really efficient train from Schipol to the city centre and suggset you use that method for ease and convenience.. Directions are fairly easy to work out in the centre as well - most people speak English and can guide you if lost - a lot of directions start at the Centraal Station, so its either to the left or right....easier when you are there.

Re taxis - have a go in the Wielertaxi - pedal power to the people! - all very eco friendly. Normal taxis are comparable to UK rates.....

Also the Amsterdam Card for visitors is a good buy - free public transport to get about and discounts to attractions and a map included....info on the link..

Lovely place - have fun....
I'd take the train from the airport to Centraal. There are loads of trains and there's room for cases & bags. Easy to find which train you get as well. You could walk to your hotel from Centraal, but if you've got a lot of luggage perhaps you should take a taxi from the station.

Enjoy the trip - I'm jealous!
