I have an American Sycamore approx 20 feet from a new in ground pool. Will the root system chase the pool water and become disatrerous to the pool?

It wont chase the pool water unless the pool is leaking however these trees can grow very big, up to 100ft and do have a big root system that can get into drains and lift paths. The main problem you may have is heavy leaf drop into the water.
I agree with Hawkwalk, your biggest problem will be all the leaves in the pool!!
