When the body is infected with HIV it produces HIV antibodies and are often the determining factor of whether ot not one is HIV positive. But why doesn't the HIV antibodies fight HIV?
It is a good question, isn't it? Researchers were baffled for a long time about this. 1)The antibodies are made to the envelope containing the virus, not the viral RNA itself. Once inside a cell, the virus is immune to the antibodies. 2)The virus changes its envelope markers or antigens far too frequently for the body to keep up. This is why we haven't got a working vaccine yet.
