However, from the moment that you accepted an offer on your property even with a very small chain it could take as long as 12 weeks.
Exchange of contracts is the very last thing that happens and with this also goes tying up a moving in/out date.
The exchange of contracts is very close(normally)to the moving date and 'could' take place the day before you are due to move.
The real delays come from the purchaser not having their finances tied up which can lead to mortgage companies delaying a loan. In my experience this is where a lot of problems begin.

I hope to complete today. My final offer was accepted in March and there is only us and the empty house - no chain at all. Final delay when it was found that there are actually no deeds!!! Other house we have just bought was also just us and the house - still about 12 weeks. When we sold we accepted the offer early Oct, there was only 3 of us. We were going into rental, the buyer of ours was selling to a first timer. We moved after 4 months during which I had a couple of hissy fits to all concerned which makes v little difference. Sit back and wait, making sure occasionally that things are still moving along. And NEVER pack too soon. There is nothing more depressing that sitting for weeks surrounded by your boxes. RESIST
