Now that downloading from this site is all but impossible due to being unable to pay by credit card, are there any suggestions how to overcome this or any other programs that can be used to the same effect?

Limewire is full of false downloads and viruses. Download a Bittorrent client like Utorrent and seach Mininova website for the songs, albums anything you want to download.

This then sends it to the UItorent software which downloads it.
