vague problem with pronunciation...
16 Answers
well, not really a problem as such, but does anyone else see a word, know how it is pronounced - but still thinks of it in the way its spelt - or perhaps the way you read it when you very first came across it...?
for example one of mine is misled ... i always initially read it as my zzuld
also awry - which i think of momentarily as oary
i never say it aloud that way and i know the correct way, but i can't seem to forget those initial split-second thoughts.
any one else have this - or am i a mutant?
there are a few others that i can't think of right now

In the same sort of way, aluminum was around before aluminium, but we still find Brits complaining about the fact that Americans stuck with the original!

late entry. My son failed a reading test at the age of 9 because he read 'conscience' as con science. He was ahead of his time!. And i too rhymed Penelope with envelope.. I was also fat - igued. I'm assured urine rhymes with queen but always say it to rhyme with line and notice many other people do, too.
lol
there are a couple of abers usernames i do it with too
reverandfunk is reever and funk - like a double act
and rosenicola is rose and cola...!!
glad i am not the only one!!
like some of you, i do do it deliberately for a laugh sometimes too - like pennel ope, or voy la instead of vwallah... but i just cannot understand why i genuinely read some words this way - every time!
