can i just set a rotavator away on a now dead weed infested garden without turning it over first

Hi stephen, Providing your ground is'nt highly compacted, then a good rotavator with reasonable power out-put should do all the hard work for you. If in doubt it's probably a good idea to ask at a hire shop for advice.

Hi Stephen,
So long as you�re sure all annual and perennial weeds are completely dead. Perennial weeds like bind weed have root extensively spreading root systems and they may appear dead on the surface but the roots may still be alive and capable of re growing. You could dig a pit to inspect what is below the surface.
Did you use a systemic weed killer which will also travel down throughout the whole plant including the roots? Persistent perennial weeds e.g. bind weed may need a second treatment as they can re grow.
If you�re happy all weeds are completely dead and the soil is not too hard or compacted you can get stuck in with the rotavator.

Make sure you've killed all the weeds off first with a systemic weed killer such as Roundup then rotavate - have just done my lawn and re-seeded and has come up a treat - one thing you will find that there are always some dormant weed seeds resident in the soil that just need the light of day to start growing - so dont be thinking the grass seed was contaminated after the new lawn has sprouted
