Should we bring back hanging?
29 Answers
Has there come a time where people are sick of murderers, rapists and pedophiles getting away with soft sentences in 'easy living' prisons?
Imagine the fear in someone's eyes when they are marched up to the noose and know their life is about to end. Surely this would be the only time when they really think about their actions and perhaps their not such the big person anymore. For the victims family its justice and lets face it, isn't it justice that criminals are severely punished for their crimes rather than watching TV from the comfort of their cells at our expense?!
There is no justice in the criminal justice system anymore.

If we resurrect the death penalty then we would be saying that it is ok to kill. Crime would paradoxically increase with the belief that well if Im going to hang for it etc and there would be an insurgence of vigilante groups carrying out public or private hangings in the name of the law. Imagine being called to jury service and knowing that your decision meant that someone could be put to death.
Capital punishment did not prevent or reduce crime in any part of our documented history, so why should we assume it would now? The reason it was abolished is because it was ineffective and immoral sentiments that are still appropriate today.
