I wonder if you could help me with some information about a telescope I have come across? It is a brass telescope and is one piece that slides into another extending to 24" long. It is 1.5" wide. It has a hinged lens cap on the end and a sliding one on the eye piece. The outside is covered in stitched leather and Inscribed on the inside brass is 5-3-1566 E.VION PARIS. There is also an arrow above the date.
If you could give me any information or the contact details of someone that may be able to, I would very much appreciate it. Thanks for your time.
Regards
A S Davies.
They have a large collection of telescopes at the Natural History Museum in London. They also have subject matter experts. Your best bet is to telephone the museum and check when someone will be around for some information about telescopes. Don't just show up because that particular expert may not be there on that day. Oh...and let's just hope you live in the U.K.
Looks like E.Vion (Etablt) was a son of the original founder Therodore Vion and became involved with the company Circa 1922. So I would say that your telecope was made after 1922 (which means that those figures are not a date)
