New or used.
Get a copy of an Irish paper and go through the ads., once new cars were cheaper in the south but not so much now.
Used cars in Ireland tend to be "more used " than in England. Also you have to take in account the exchange rate between the Euro and Stirling.
If I was moving to the South I would be inclined to buy a car here and take it with me.
