At my '12' week scan I was actually 17 weeks gone, so in reality I'd missed the vital period for taking folic acid! My baby is now 7 weeks old and perfect! You can't change anything now so don't worry about it! Just enjoy the rest of your pregnancy!
For my first two kids I was never told to take folic acid at all, even when I asked my midwife, who had been in the biz for 30 years, she said 'your healthy, why would you need to?' and I have two perfectly healthy boys no problemo. Don't worry, like the other lady said. They told me mum to eat liver in the 70s and I'm here perfectly healthy - so Frankie he say RELAX!
Taking folic acid is still a fairly new thing really so dont panic about it. With my daughter I was nearly 4 months gone before I found out........in this time, not only had I not taken any folic acid, but I was also out most weekends and smoking!! (Hangs head in shame! lol) I gave birth to a healthy 7lb 3oz baby who has no health problems as a result of this.
Amy,
Dont worry chick,
Most people are between 4-12 weeks gone before they know. And most of us are drinking, and or smoking and eating all sorts of soft cheeses and other stuff on the list of food to avoid during pregnancy.
When you go for your scans tell them you didn't take folic acid and ask them to have a really good look at babys spine to check all is normal just to be really safe. There is notheng more you can do as far as I know.
Please dont spend your pregnancy worrying, it really wont help.
Good luck
xx
