Preston, Chantelle & celebrity marriage should role models treat marriage so lightly?
12 Answers
Celebrity couple Preston and Chanelle's marriage breakup is yet another short lived celebrity relationship. What do you think about role models giving up on marriage so easily? Should celebrities think more carefully than the rest of us before tying the knot? Or is it just the way of things these days for marriages to fail?

Agree with china doll. what difference does it make if your a so called celebrity or not, maybe yeah they went into marriage to fast considering thier age, but just because they are in the public eye doesnt make them any different to Jo public. Marriages break up for so many different reasons, you simply cant generalise them.
I wouldn't really class C&P as a role model of mine but whatever floats your boat. More people appear to get divorced nowadays, I don't know if that's because individuals can earn good money and if they're not happy they think I'm off, or if it's because years ago there were lots of people in unhappy marriages.
I think with some celebrities they live such a different life where in some cases anything goes and anything can happen it's just part of it and they don't think anything of it. However, others - like David and Victoria Beckham have gone through rough times and not thrown in the towel yet.

I believe that a lot of couples marry because they think it is the thing that couples do.
Friends and relatives apply subtle pressure about 'wedding bells', usually followed by 'the patter of tiny feet', and couples enter into marriage and parenthood without seriously thinking through the consequences of either.
As to being a 'role model' - that strange notion is entirely the creation of the media. No public persona chooses to be a 'role model', it is a label hung on them by the media without their desire or consent, and quite rightly, the majority feel no compunction what ever to adapt and adjust their behaviour based on the perceived impact of a generation of complete strangers.
As Paul McCartney famously told a reporter, when questioned about his 'role model' status, and his 'responsibility' after being caught with dope in his luggage - "I won't tell anyone if you don't - whether or not this becomes news is not down to me, it's down to you."
Marriage is two people, it works if they do, not if they don't, famous or no.,
