digital teletext
2 Answers
hi, have got a L G lcd t.v. with built in freeview. had it about 4 months. it has been back twice to the repairers. problem is when it had been on for an hour or so, the digital teletex gets slow, and eventually freezes. you can't exit text, change pages or anything. the only way out is to switch the set off and back on again. the last repair job sheet said that they replaced the circuit board. I have a new ariel and lead. I have tried a seperate freeview box and that works fine, no problem. also the signal strength on the built in freeview shows about 70%, but the seperate box shows 100% signal and quality. the lights on the transmitter can be seen at night from my house, about 20miles away( the belmont transmitter, the highest structure in britain).
any ideas before I send it back again?
thanks, alf.

Fit for the purpose (it isn't)
As described
Of satisfactory quality (it isn't).
Stress you have been more than reasonable in accepting repairs twice but you have lost confidence in the product and it is still not fit for the purpose.
Be firm. Tell them you will not hesitate to make a claim in the Small Claims' Court (easily done online, and cheap) if you do not get all your money back.

another possibility is that the signal is too strong (despite the 70% - the receiver will try to balance the signal)
or alternatively - how many sets do you have on the same feed? ....
I can see emley moor (about same distance as you) and I have to have attenuators (18db!!!) or the picture is terrible and text won't work at all.
I also had to use a genuine signal splitter to use a cheap freeview box because the choke on he cheap box was so "efficient"
it's more than possible that a newer more sensitive reciever will show problems
If that doesn't work rather than coming the big guns for a refund .... go for a replacement
start by asking for an alternative make as a replacement and remind the shop that you haven't had use of the TV for 4 months, have used untold gallons of petrol and spent hours of phone time trying to resolve the problem + the stress of missing untold weather forecasts)
....most shops should offer a least another couple of inches upgrade by way of compensation
