Regardless of polarity i.e. if one didn't have a compass to hand and couldn't tell east from west, is there a way, just from a quick ten second glance, to tell if one is looking at a sunrise or a sunset??? They look pretty mofo'ing similar to me!

One would assume that you would be aware of your surroundings, if it has been light for hours, it's a sunset, if it has been dark for hours, it's a sunrise.

Sorry to clarify, if you had not been around for any amount of time prior to seeing th event - is there any actual visual difference in the way the light acts or diffuses etc?
Not really, to my knowledge.

When TV programmes (such as Baywatch, as a case in point) are being made, they often film their evening scenes early in the morning, because the light gives the same warm glow as it does in the evening.
Interesting question! In 10 seconds? Maybe not! But, if you have a moment or two, yes....I'll have to refer this one to my Staff!

Is the air cool, as in early mornings? or is it warm and balmy, as in evenings? Is there dew on the plants or not?
Cool air and/or dew would indicate that it is time for breakfast.
I could tell you the differecne between a 'tequila surise' and a 'tequila sunset' at a glance!

It's to do with whether the grenadine is on top of or beneath the tequila!

Keep your head still and see if you can see the direction it's moving in.
