I'd really appreciate some help to finish this. 50ac Strategic position - one soldiers held in capital more conclusively. (1,8) Think it's foothold, but totally stumped by 41dn. Loss of border during brief easing of tensions. (9) D?T?D?E?T Perhaps I've got something wrong? Also, 5dn Foolish boozers scoffed about opponents in card game (9) Is it insensate?

From memory, think 50a is a fortiori and think insensate is right. Hope tt helps.
Insensate is correct...Inns (boozers) ate (scoffed) about SE (south and east-bridge players)

Thank you all so much. My heart sank when Slaney suggested detriment as it left an i at the end of 50ac. Have to say this crossword's really stretched me & I wouldn't have completed it without you. I'm so grateful.
