You used to be able to buy citric acid, which did the job. However, the woman at Boots said they were no longer allowed to sell it as heroin users used in their fixes (I can't imagine wanting to inject citric acid, but hey).
I now use spirit vinegar. Neat, until it looks like all the limescale has gone when I shake. Then rinse like mad.
