What, in your opinion, is the 'best value' supermarket. We have virtually all of them in our locality - but which one should we use?

There is very lttle difference in the price of most grocery lines in the big four supermarkets so you should go to the one which gives best customer service, that can be any, depending on the staff at any particular store. If they are happy they tend to give better service and Asda has in the past had the highest employee satisfaction ratings so therefore should be best. It does vary from store to store though.
I also have Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Waitrose and Sainsburys near! I have shopped in all of them but i always choose Morrisons and Asda for big shops, they are definately both much cheaper. Morrisons is probably better but ours isnt very big and our Asda is huge so theres more choice.
I think Tesco is by far the worst, it is so expensive, too busy and not such good food.
I try to shop locally if i can, like our local butcher who is just so lovely and does the best meat which is not too expensive. I also go to the market as much as i can and the bakery for bread occasionally. I hope these can all keep going!
Visit them all, and take advantage of the special offers in each one.
I agree with heathfield, we have a Somerfield nearby which is just so expenseive but their special offers are good. We have a Waitrose fairly close but they are even worse - however they often have cat food at 3 for 2 which makes a big difference (saving 150 per year for two cats). Consider Asda best for main shop but they never seem to have the cat food on offer!. I know not everyone buys cat food but for me it is a very easy thing to think of in terms of a constant item which is easily calculated.
For petfood and Toiletries the best has got to be Wilkinsons!! I had three shopping bags full of rabbit food, dog food, dog chews, cat treats etc and it didn't even come to 20!!
Take heathfields advice and use them all. I have Asda, Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons and Somerfield all within striking distance. I tend to use Asda more often than the others but only because it is the nearest. However they don't stock all the things I like and so I go to Tescos or one of the other supermarkets every so often to stock up on the things Asda don't sell and also to take advantage of their special offers. You don't have to be loyal to one shop you know!
i think morrinons is a lot cheaper than tesco and with alot more choice to.
I use Tesco all the time. I find the service, staff & prices excellent.
try WILKINSONS they now sell food
I get 90% of my groceries at Lidl. They are German and the quality of food is excellent and far cheaper than any of the big supermarkets. Anything else I need, I get at Waitrose, which may not be cheap but their quality is unsurpassable. As someone mentioned, Tesco's is appalling, poor quality food which is overpriced and rude staff to boot!
Aldi is almost as good as Lidl these days, but their fresh fruit and veg are not as good as Lidl. A huge survey done in Germany recently voted Lidl as the best supermarket when it comes to fresh fruit and veg as they use the least pesticide out of all the other stores, and if that doesn't convince you, they also stock organic now at reasonable prices!
Everybody's right. If you have the time to do it, moochng round them all is the way.
Please accept Mammar's tips for good stuff you can find
1) Bratwurst, breaded brie and redcurrant sauce and tiramisu cake from Aldi
2) Fresh bread from Asda
3) Toilet rolls from Supersaver (always the cheapest by far)
buy your meat from a local butcher and fruit and veg from your local greengrocer. They give advice, recipes, prices are generally cheaper and they are usually helpful and you should use local shops or one day there won't be any.

PS I own a greengrocers so I must declare an interest
