Bees in my loft................................

I pulled the ceiling in my bathroom down the other day as it was bowed and I am putting in a new suite etc. Ever since then I had spotted and had to get rid of about 20 bees. I have been convincing my missus they must be coming from outside as we leave our windows open everyday and I don't really want to go in my loft and get attacked by 100's of bees. Who should I get in contact with to get rid of them or a least go in to my loft and take a look. P.S I don't like honey either.

Try pest control, look in yellow pages im sure there will be some in there for your area.

Yeah i think council will help, i work in the council myself and im sure it comes under environmental health even if its in your home! try them

Yes, the council in my area do pest control. It was free for domestic problems but businesses have to pay. Are they bees or wasps? You shouldn't really be killing bees they're essential to pollination and usually don't sting. I have them buzzing all over certain plants in the garden, they're the big fat lazy ones. Wasps do sting if you get too close and they zoom in on you.

Just rang pest control and bees are a protected species so they wont get involved. They said I should get hold of my local beekeeper - I live in north London!. Anyone know a beekeeper in London?

If the bees are Honey bees its best to call a beekeeper. Masonry bees & wasps can be treated. Honey bees can also be treated if they are a nucience. You can usually tell if they are Honey as they may hang in a tear drop form.
Pest controllers do not like to destroy honey bees but will & can if they are a serious problem. Have a look on the BPCA web site for a good local pest controller. Should cost you between �50 -70 to treat.

Just got in contact with the London beekeepers association - They say not to worry as the queen bee probably laid eggs around 200-300 and that once they die in a few weeks they will be gone for good as they never rtn to the same nest. So I ever needed a rocket up my arse to get some DIY done this is it , I will put the ceiling up tonight.

Yeah ...but why should the eggs die !!!!...Eggs hatch!. & yes they are right that usually they wont reuse a nest but nothing stopping them builing one right nx to it. I suggest you get it removed sharpish. Phone these guys & see what they say.

Bees are not protected although some pest controllers wont touch them as they are in short supply and have problems of their own surviving, I only used to destroy them if they were a danger to people and then only if I couldn't get them removed by a bee keeper.

And they will return to the same place on occasions especially if the nest containing honey is still in situ.
