Interesting question... mine are all growing anti-clock wise (as viewed from the top of the support down)... I've never thought about it before. I suspect it has a lot to do with the way one starts the tendrils...

thanks for that, i only ask because they were growing so well around there original supports that i had to get taller canes, i swapped the canes very carefully but the beans don't seem to be doing as well now, and i wondered if i had put them back on the wrong way, or maybe its just the stress of being taken off, or maybe even that we haven't had as much rain since i swapped them...
