bmw cd players

I have been told that the only cd players that can be used in my bmw are bmw own make(which cost a fortune!).I s this true?

It sounds unlikely, but a good indication of the reliability of this would be who told you it. If it was a BMW garage or a guy trying to sell you a BMW cd player in a pub then I'd say not. Ask an independant retailer (like Halfords)

On the Halfords website you can buy fittings for a BMW, so I'd assume not.

I have an October 2000 BMW 3 series, and prior to buying it I was unsure if it came with a CD changer or not. The head unit is a BMW Business unit that supports a 6 disc changer. I basically had two options - to get a CD changer from the dealer (expensive!) or get an Alpine 6 disc CD changer (identical to the BMW one) for about �100 less. As it turned out, the car came with one anyway, but certainly for the BMW Business unit, you don't need to go to the dealer, but your choices are limited - the only option I know of is the Apline unit.

Total rubbish. The only direction that I can think they may be coming from is that if you have steering wheel controls for the CD player, they will probably not work with the new non BMW head unit.
