I know nothing about gardening but in my house I have a small flowerbed type thing, about 6 foot long by 2 or 3 food wide and don't know what to put in it!

During the day it sometimes gets the light and sometimes not so it needs to be something that can grow in light or shade, and it will be up against a fence, so if needed, it could be something that grows up a trellis.

I don't mind about the height of it, whether it is high or just a low shrub type thing, but I would prefer something colourful

Also it needs to be something that doesnt need much looking after and can be bought as a plant /shrub/ tree rather that being grown from seed!

Thanks!

Hi chazza,
I think Honeysuckles would do well there. you should have enoufg space to get two in, so if you plant differant varieties you will get a succession of flowers. Lonicera periclymenum 'belgica' is the early Dutch honeysucle which has fragrant red flowers ,while L P 'Serotina' is the late dutch variety which has purple/red flowers which turn yellow into autumn.

Train them up on canes to get them up to the trellis, they are self supporting and need little attention.

You could maybe grow some bedding plants in front, so you can have a change each year, Buisy Lizzies are very colourful and easy to grow. Good Luck. Tbird+
