I got a job in the pre-school attached to my sons primary school, though I had been the volunteer treasurer for two years before that. Unfortunately we then moved 200 miles away so that was that!
Some Mums I know work evenings and/or weekends when their husbands are able to look after the children. One woman I know works at Next stocking the shelves at night. Others work in a chipshop or in a pub.
The most sought after job is probably school secretary - but there are loads of people who want that job!
I ended up working in a shop in town as Christmas staff (from October to December) from 10 - 2 which fitted in nicely. I was then lucky enough to get a job in a local shop from 9 - 3 and only working a few hours a week in the school holidays.
I understand though that the DHSS and CSA may employ people school hours, term times only.
Good luck!
