Dog and special fried rice!

This may sound like a strange question!
But would it be ok to give my dog a protion of special fried rice once a day along with his normal food?
Before any one says he should only be fed dogfood, the vet has said itisok for us to feed him leftovers anfd the likes as he is slightly underweight from not eating before.
Obviously I would prefer not to give him leftovers everyday of what we eat as i am sure although it may help him put on weight, pizza tkeaways and indian would not be to good for him!
We got chinese last night and had a special fried rice that didnt get eaten so i put it down for him, and he adored it, ate it all with no problem which is a first in a long time as he doesnt even do this with his dinner.
So my thinking is, that i go to the chinese every few nights and ask forsome portions of egg fried rice and he has that :) Do you think this would be better for him then just normal left overs?

I must admit when I first saw the post I thought it was going to be someone complaining about Koreans eating dogs.
special fried rice is rice that has egg, cooked meat and or prawns, some veg and oil added to it, white rice is often recommended when a dog is poorly, it would be very easy to make it and then you would know it didn't have spring onions or too much soy sauce in it.
Bye the way my dogs have had curry, not very hot ones but on the principal that they will have had it in India.

Its not that im as much worried that the effects that curry will have on him, my cats always polish off our indian & chinese takeaway and there seem to be no ill effects!
But i dont want it to go back to him getting our leftovers all the time and then stop eating his own dog food.
It has been a real struggle to get him to eat again at all, and yes it is partly our own fault. We got a Doberman pup 2 years ago, (we have had Ashke 3 years now) Benson our dobie grew up and although he was a very loving dog, he took complete dominance over Ashke and my poor Ashke stopped eating because well, Benson would go between the 2 bowls and eat it all, even when we fed them seperately, he wouldnt eat at all. So last october we rehomed Benson for Ashkes sake really. He lost alot of weight. It has only been recently he started eating again and is now ok to eat his dry dog food, although not that much of it!
Id rather have him stick to his dog food then be expecting to get nice stuff from us and then stop eating again!
I guess special fried rice is a simple meal for him and yes, making it ourselves is definitely a better option then going to the chinese every other night!

special fried rice from a takeaway could have onion in, which is poisonous for dogs. Have you tried boiling him some mince or chicken breast with some pasta, rice and a few vegetables, always worked for me when I have had a fussy dog?

He doesnt seem that bothered with pasta, he even turns his nose up at home made spaghetti bolognaise!
Im thinking of making it some rice, ham and tukey slices chopped up, some sweetcorn, maybe some carrots & cabbage?

sometimes the food we make for our dog looks even better than ours!!
looks like Ashke should be very happy with the menu.

He should be Ruby, but he will no doubt turn his nose up at it! will try it out later and see!

i had exactley the same problem with one of my border collie dog but i would not feed my doy fried rice...... but i would feed them boiled rice and mince or chicken also i have been told potatoes are a good way of gaining wights aswell but i found a dog food that gain weight for him

Rice, turkey, carrots and cabbage are fine, ham is ok as a treat but not as daily food as pork is not good for dogs. Sweetcorn is a little difficult to digest. When cooking the turkey, cook the veggies and rice with it, as it gives them the flavour of the meat, and even fussy dogs will eat their veggies then. My 14 week old puppy has just tried a few spoonfuls of doggie stew that I cooked for the others, and woolfed it down.

have you tried mixing a little of the fried rice with his normal food might be a way of getting him to eat more of the dog food and gradually reduce the rice till hes eating the right amount of his food with no rice

hi ruthann, we did triy that, not with rice but with puppy food sachets, which is one of the things the vet advised to help him pt on weight, and he eats the puppy food and leaves the rest of his dinner! if we mix anything in with his food, he picks out the tasty bits and leaves the rest he doesnt want.
When he was a pup, he even picked out the bits of cucumber a chicken salad sandwich he was given, put them to one side and ate the rest!

suprised the vet suggested giving an adult dog puppy food due to the protein content.........rice pudding with condensed milk is good for putting on weight.

she suggested it just to add to his normal meals to help him put the weight on.
Any condensed milk in this house gets eaten by my fella lol! he squirts it straight from the tube into his mouth or eats it out the tin with a spoon!
Anyway, back to the point!

jules, is that a euphemism?! Our dog is unwell at the mo, seems like another food allergy, so off to the vets again today. Last night I gave him plain turkey, chopped finely, with some cooked brown rice, into which I melted a teeny knob of butter, and added a pinch of chicken seasoning for flvour (to avoid the inevitable picking out of the meat and ignoring of the rice!)
He loved it. Hope you find something for your pup, wiggal :)
