Kilner Jar bits
5 Answers
I have a few post 1948 Improved Kilner Jars (2lb) with lids and I need the screw bands that secure the rubber ring and glass lid down. Anyone know of a source?
I have an outlet for the rubber rings.

I had the same problem years ago trying to replace them and was completely unsuccessful. Lakeland (they also have a website) stock complete kilner jars but the screw bands are now made of orange plastic . If you want them for jam, marmalade or preserving, why not use empty commercial jar jars or pickled onions jars with the metal lids with plastic inside? I now re-use these time and time again, washing them in warm water and sterilising the jars for 10 minutes on a low heat in the oven. The metal lids I simply sterilise by pouring boiling water over them. I've never had a bad batch of preserves using these substitutes.
I think I have a few spare metal rings for post-1948 jars which I could probably let you have, if you want. Without the rubber rings they are no use to me. I would like to know where I can get some rings at a reasonable price, for either pre-1948 or post-1948 jars, in order to bottle some fruit when it is ripe.
