Right now after reading a certain question on here I'm craving Ben & Jerry's ice cream (just give me a tub, any tub) but how can you conquer food cravings? Usually I want sweets or chocolate and usually end up giving in! Having originally lost 5 stone in 2002-2003 I want to keep my weight down but I've put 9Lb back on and I need inspiration on how not to eat all those gorgeous naughty foods! Any help appreciated.

hmmm - willpower? do you want to be fat?
* - do you want an easy answer or the truth? maybe you should buy the latest slim pill? or is it anything but hard work and discipline you're prepared to try?

I know there's no easy answer - how do you think I lost 5 stone in the first place?! Clue: it did not happen overnight. I'm just hoping someone might have some useful tips on the odd cravings for unhealthy foods.
I eat frozen fat free yogurts, they are yummy.
One option is to give up sugar entirely. Sugar cravings in particular are fueled by sudden decrease of sugar in your blood. If you cut sugar out of your diet, after a few days, you won't be craving it much at all. And when you eat it again, it will taste too sweet. Another thing that works for me is to set a deadline for losing a small amount of weight. Like, now I may say, I want to lose 5lb by when I see my family over Thanksgiving. That gives me incentive to not give in to my cravings, and it seems like such a manageable goal. Or else, you can allow yourself one craving per day, or 3 per week, etc.
Drink water, or water with a touch of lemon juice in it. Not very exciting I'm afraid but it does work.
WHY NOT BLEND LOTS OF FRUIT TOGETHER THEN ADD A NATURAL YOGHURT TO IT THEN FREEZE IT THIS WAY YOU CAN GET NATURAL SUGARS FROM THE FRUITS AND IT WONT HURT YOUR DIET AND YOU HAVE PIECE OF MIND THAT YOUR EATING HEALTHY.X
wow! 5 stones! That's amazing! Don't you feel amazing now? Better than you would after gorging on lardy foods!? How did you do it by the way...you don't sound like "you" need the tips with that sort of weight loss!
Well done- five stone is FANTASTIC. I have completely lost my sugar cravings, and I did this by doing the Carol Vorderman detox diet. It is amazing. You eat really healthy natural foods for 28 days, by which time you simply don't want processed, sugary or salty food anymore. It's only for 28 days but I can guarantee that after that time you won't want to go back to the way you ate before. It's not so much a weight loss thing as a way to change unhealthy eating habits. But it is great, and it's totally worked for me..
Robinsons Orange or Lemon Barley water, well diluted of course. It works for me.

MEDUSA, it was Weight Watchers that I originally lost the weight with. On their points diet based on calories and saturated fat although you can have a bit of what you fancy my cravings usually go off the points scale so I have to write off a day (my WW leader would not have been impressed)!
P.S. Very well done on losing all that weight secretspirit. What an achievement!
Congratulations on the weight loss, and what an achievement!!! (Means there's hope for me yet!!) I get the munchies too for all the wrong things, especially when I'm tired, bored or stressed!! There was an advert on TV the other evening for 'Cremosa' lollies by Chupa Chups. Apparently they taste of strawberries and cream and are sugar free. Will that help?
PS. Just found a brill web site:- www.sugarfreesuperstore.co.uk. They seem to have loads of yummy goodies and they're all sugar free so I'm off to have a good look and spend some money!!! :) Good Lick....oops I meant Good Luck.. Just the thought of that website!!

Thanks everyone, I will look into all of the suggestions. I'll confess that on the day I posted that I did succumb to some Phish Food Ben and Jerry's but I promise to be better behaved in future!!!
Well done on your weight loss! Try mixing a large tub of low fat greek yoghurt with a good amount of lemon curd and freezing it - makes gorgeous low fat ice cream! Not quite Ben and Jerrys unfortunately but at least its sweet! Good luck
