Bob Martin Warning!

Just been to the vets, one of my babies has a very severe flea allergy and will be on steroid injectoins for life and 4 weekly flea treatments :(
While there, i asked about the Bob Martin drop on wormer we used on them on sunday, and she said although not all shop bought wormer & flea treatments are bad, they have had many cases of cats fitting & having seizures for up to 48 hours after having Bob Martin wormer used on them.
So please, just make sure you stay away from these products, and if you do go for shop bought, make sure you ask your vet or do research.
I am so so so lucky & grateful that nothing happened to any of my 7 babies!

As I said in my previous response to your last Question, I had read about Bob Martin wormers, but I didnt want to worry you unduly, so didnt mention the name of the product. In the article I read it was a case of owners using flea treatment designed for dogs on cats though. Nevertheless I would rather use products that the vets sell, which can be purchased cheaply at the on line veterinary chemists.

I will definitely be going through the online places, as Spinks needs frontline combi every 4 weeks, and we spent �115 at the vets today on flea treatment for the cats & dog!
I have found petmeds.co.uk, but will need a prescription to get it for Spinks.
Do you think that the vet will write a prescription for it for all the cats as Spinks needs it, and if the other cats dont have it then she will be possibly at risk?
I dont mean write a different prescription for each cat, but a repeat one that will cover all the cats? Do i make sense!?

There have been a few cases of people doing their shopping online and ordering Bob Martin for cats. If the store doesn't have what is ordered they often pack the next best thing - in this case, Bob Martin for dogs. If the purchaser doesn't notice the mistake and uses the chemical, the dog flea treatments are highly toxic to cats and can cause serious illness in them if used.

I've tried Bob Martin myself and it didn' t work, so I would always advise people to get the proper stuff from the vets.

So sorry to hear about your moggy, wiggal, flea allergies can be awful for the poor kitties!

I have said before on here I would never use spot on treatments for either a dog or a cat, for either worming or flea treatment. I only ever use frontline spray from the vet and either drontal or panacur wormers bought online.

You don't need a prescription for Frontline Combi, only for the spray.

Try vetmedic pharmacy.

Apologies - I have just been to the vetmedic site and according to that you DO need a prescription for Frontline Combi - Ithought it was only the spray.

try vet uk, i have had problems with petmedics and vetmedic, they both let me down big time. The vets cannot charge to write you a prescription if you want the spray, but frontline spot on is available without prescription dont know about the combi one though.

I have spoken to the vet this morning and they are writing me out a prescription to get the frontline combi online.
I have enough for now as have 12 pipettes & 7 cats, so all will be done now and then Spinks in 4 weeks and the others in 8 weeks!
How long does a prescription last?
Or how long is the date on frontline for? I dont want to buy more combi now when i get the prescription, only to have it out of date by the time i come to use it. But if i wait til i need it, i dont want the prescription to of run out!
All abit confusing for me, first time i have had a cat need any of this sort of thing!

I asked my vet tonight about the length of time a prescription lasts, and he said it is more to do with what the vet writes on the prescription, as sometimes they will write 'no repeats' and he also said he would not write one for more than the required dose. He would not expect anyone to keep a prescription for more than six months and probably a lot less.

Also the shelf life of Frontline Combi should be at least a year , so would be happy to prescribe a year's supply.
