What are the 2 errors most used in our language that really make your hackles rise? Mine is 'bought' and 'brought' and the worst in my book is 'specific' and 'Pacific'.

yes, very few people seem to know how to use affect and effect correctly.
However, an instance arose once where the incorrect word was used, but in context, it still made perfect sense.
It was the title of a presentation given by someone who worked for a paint manufacturer. It was
"Factors EFFECTING Surface Finish".
He meant factors which have an effect, i.e. which AFFECT it, but in this case, those factors actually do EFFECT surface finish, i.e. bring about the characteristics of the surface finish.
When I explained this to him, he seemed nonplussed.
