I need transport to Heathrow airport and taking National express seems to be a cheap option. However, they offer funfares to London and are as cheap as 1. Would there be any problem in buying a funfare ticket to London central and getting off at the earlier Heathrow stop or do they check tickets when you get off?

Thanks.

If you read the terms and conditions you will see this is expressly forbidden.
Whether they actually check is another matter.
There is a slight danger if there are several buses on a departure that if one is full of passengers travelling through to London it may not stop at Heathrow at all. You might be on that bus.
Would you have luggage in the luggage compartment where the driver would need to unload your luggage? If so he may well check your ticket and then refuse to unload your stuff as it's not where you're getting off!
You could get to London you then go to Heathrow by tube. You don't say where abouts the coach is going to in London, but leave at least an hour from central London for the tube ride.
I book National Express tickets at my work. Most drivers won't stop to let you off as this means having to pull your luggage out and holds everyone up. Best bet is get 1 ticket to london and make your way to Heathrow from there.
