However it will be cheaper to book it here before you go. I can't see you deciding you don't need one.
Although the basic rental costs in Florida are very cheap, add ons in the form of insurances, etc, will bump up the cost enormously. Booking here gets all that included at reasonable cost.

These are the car rental places in Orlando - most of them have websites where you can check anything you might want to know:

Don't wait until you're over there to decide - it looks much scarier on the roads than it actually is. You need to arrange car hire so that you drive yourself from the airport to the hotel/villa. Basically, you just need to get on with it - if you wait to see what it's like, you might talk yourself out of it! I've been several times and have met various Brits throughout our visits who have been put off simply because they waited like you are planning to do and were put off by the sheer scale of everything over there. My advice is to book now and just go for it - you really are so restricted if you rely on other forms of transport.
we always book our car online before we go and then just pick it up on arrival

I have been to Orlando 27 times and have taken a car every time. It is not unusual for a trip from your hotel to the restaurant to an attraction and back home again to clock up 30 miles or more. In cost terms, it is insignificant to the value you will get out of it. It will add to your enjoyment immensely, but always book one before you go. Its cheaper and you get more included.
