The members were Denis D'ell (Denis Dalziel - vocals), anne 'Honey' Lantree (drums), John Lantree (bass guitar), Alan Ward (lead guitar) and Martin Murray (rhythm guitar). Murray was later replaced by Peter Pye.
After signing to Pye Records, the labels managing director, Louis Benjamin, insisted they change their name and suggested The Honeycombs, after the title of a hit by Jimmie Rodgers.
