Internet Protocols for highlighting admirable posts
13 Answers
I had cause earlier to wish to refer to a post before mine (it may have been one of Spock's but hey ho who knows) and I thought of the ^^^ ploy - i.e. look up there at the post before mine. But what if, by the time you have answered some other plonker has stuck something on there so it looks like your ^^^ refers to them rather than to (eg) Spock ? Could we have a standardised language ? For example ^ refers to the post immediately above this one, ^^ to the one above that. There is no down arrow in Windows XP, but \/ could be used to refer to 'the post immediately following mine, and \/ \/ the post following that and so on.

Often you come up with a cracker, do the ^^^ toot toot trick and then by the time you submit it some other prawn has stuck in some stupid comment about parking in Sainsburys car park. In this event, maybe there could be another convention like ^..^ meaning the answer above the one above mine.
