Four in ten homes taken by immigrants
The current housing situation in the UK is a hotly debated subject at the moment. New research will add fuel to the current fire after revealing four in ten homes built in the last decade have been needed for immigrants. Gordon Brown has admitted that it is harder for first-time buyers to get on the housing ladder and has promised to build three million homes by 2020. However, based on current immigration levels, 40% of these homes will be needed for immigrants. What do you think? How can we work around this situation if we even can?

I'm Labour through and through. But you are right about Asian people, I have had too many experiences that prove your point, but when I argue these my family call me racist. I want you to distinguish between BLACK and the Asian community, because it is only the Asian communitiy who have upset me for years
Another classic AB debate.
Let me get in straight, just so I'm sure of what's being said.
We're not complaining about Asians getting leathered and smashing up pubs or causing hooliganism at football grounds or anything.
We're having a go at them for pushing to the front of the queue in the chemists??
Or buying houses with, y'know, actual money. Jesus christ, send them home!

Back after a few days away so speed reading again. Interested in the asians at auctions mention. Yes, in certain areas there is big % attending. They are canny, bid on cheaper stuff, stick rigidly to their budget.
What I believe and know to be true because I am currently renting a home belonging to an Indian is that they do not generally maintain their homes.
We have lost use of the dishwasher, 1 hot tap, the immersion, the overflow has dripped so long the window cill is rotten, the windows badly need replacing and the lot redecorated. He has done virtually nothing since buying the place and (to be fair) responding knee jerk style to our call outs.
We leave in 3 weeks and on to our new place. I have told him and the agent that no one should come in here until a lot of money has been spent. He agrees its run down, charges below market rent and so thats OK then isn't it?
For those ABers who look on law you may have seen my question on my ruined rug after the rain poured thru his naf roof.
He has no money to spend on this property or his own home and I have had the bailifs here for him.
He lives in hardship because having a buy to let is seen as the way forward. He admits he may have to sell to keep his head above water (maybe literally here).
All landlords who behave like this are allowing our housing stock to degenerate and this should be a big concern to those living in or near mainly Asian areas and future generations.

sp..if this is indeed the case then I think that most non-immigrants can be described in the same way.
Immigrants can't win either way, I'm afraid. In my opinion considering that our whole country has been built on immigration (as has the USA) we can't do much about it now. Of course I would rather immigrants came over to work ~ I very much doubt anyone is pleased about them coming over and claiming benefits ~ but the way I see it is that if there is a job to be done and nobody else is going to do it why not bring others in? it certainly worked in the 1950's.
Incidently I have been informed by Mr P that Poland wants their workers back. He is in the business of building houses and employs Polish and British workers, and he has found out that British tradesmen are moving to Poland to work. Unfortunately they want more money, so Poland would rather have their countrymen back home.
I would also like to point out that Polish workers are no longer on a lower wage, and they command pay in line with British tradesmen.

Well, if they're anything like the Poles I've had working for me recently, they deserve to be paid top whack.
The blokes who renovated my house had an amazing work ethic.
Then again, I have the handicap of being brought up in a non-racist home where I was taught to respect others.
Damn my mother and her intelligent world view.

Indeed they do, sp.
Mr P speaks very highly of their quality of work and general attitude. I can't see why it is so terrible that they are working here and sending money home anyway..isn't that what many people do in all walks of life, no matter where they come from?
My uncle works in Spain while his wife and kids are here in Blighty. I am pretty sure he is sending top wonga home every month.
