I have been offered a part time retail job interview next week. The job is based in the nearest town to me. I am unsure as to why they have asked me to bring my passport with me to the interivew. I have my driver's lisence if its proof of ID that the company needs. Does anyone know why they asked for my passport?

You know Sooz, the same thing happened to me. I had an interview yesterday and was asked to bring birth certificate, drivers license and passport . But then again, this was a job for the airline industry.
I think they have to prove that you are eligible to work in the UK. Government rules, and all that!
Sado is right - its to prove you're a UK or EU citizen and have rights to work in the UK or, if you're not, that youhave a visa - which is stamped into the passport - to say that you do have the right to be there.

If you don't have a passport, a drivers licence states where you were born next to your DOB. It also has your photo on it to prove you are who you say you are.
yup advice is correct. It is to prove that you are eligible to work in the UK - a driving licence does not provide this so will not do - that's the Home Office saying that, not the employer, so don't blame them!

The only documents they will accept are Passport or Birth Certificate (long version, i.e. the one with your Mum and Dad's details on it too) and that's assuming that you were born in the EU and therefore don't need a visa giving you permission to work.

Hope this helps.
It's also standard practice for most recruitment agencies to ask for passports now - just makes it simpler for them to administer - nothing to worry about.
