I need help and this is a long question

I live on my own in a generously large house with my various pets. Quite often when i come home from work i like to sit down with a nice cup of tea, and ponder over the days events. I then move onto the computer situated in the study, and very often i will first check the emails and then come onto Answerbank. When I'm on Answerbank, i look at various questions posted throughout the day; my favourite category is Body and Soul. Usually there are a good selection of questions in body and soul and so i have quite a wide range to choose from. Anyway, sometimes users post questions about spirits and ghosts or haunted houses or the soul and it's when discussing these topics that the following phenomena sometimes occurs, usually at night. I get chills down my spine and the room feels cold but the temperature is still displayed on the meter as warm. I feel like there is a presence in the room with me, most often standing behind me, and when i turn round there is nothing there. Also sometimes i see things out the corner of my eye, and also sometimes see white flashes in various different places. In the past when i have had the DVD player plugged in it has turned itself on without me doing anything, i would then turn it off and a short while later it would come on again. I've tried talking to the spirit i sense and asking it to find the light, I've tried visualising a light in my head but i can't visualise things very well sometimes.

I could try saying a prayer for the spirit but as it comes and goes I�m not sure if it�s just a visitor or if it�s a spirit permanently based in the physical plane. At times the room will kind of go cloudy and then suddenly will become clear again. I've had my eyes tested before now quite a few times and I�ve been told they are absolutely fine. I can't afford for a psychic or medium to come in and i don't know if the church will want to get involved. I have reached the point were i don't know what to do, I�ve posted on Answerbank before and i have tried the techniques suggested to me but with little success. I don't know what else to do, these websites that you email for help are no good as you have to either pay or wait ages for a 10 word reply or something. The problem is affecting my life; I�ve had panic attacks about it.
Please could you offer me some help, i can't think of anything to do other than move out of my home and that would be out of the question, with the prices of homes these days.
Any suggestions are welcome.

Hmmm, has your generously sized house got an attic?
If so you may have some ethnic friends living up there.
The reason you dont see them is because its dark at night.
The white flashes you see may be their eyes.
The dvd player turning on by itself might be your pet or maybe one of your 'guests' have programmed it.
The spirit your trying to talk to might be one of your 'guests' again, but obviously they dont understand you...

I cant really help you, but I do know what it is like to live with a ghost because it happened to me. There will always be sceptics and until you have experienced it then no one can imagine what its like. Have you looked into the history of your house, like finding out who lived there before or what the land was before your house was built. If you try and do some research then you may feel more positive. I will try and find my previous answer to a Q like yours and give a link, my story is long and I dont fancy typing it all out again.

Hmmm, i think before you go wasting time looking into the history of your house, you should look to see if there have been any mental health problems in your family history first...

hi xroads, it seems weird that you only get this feeling when you are discussing ghosts etc on here. I would think if there was something in your house you would feel it more often.

If I were you I would ask the same thing on a supernatural/paranormal forum, theres quite a few good ones and this kind of thing is discussed on them all the time. Good luck :)
