I'm having stress issues with my manager at the moment and have difficulty going into work everyday too.
good luck!

You could if the GP signs you off. However it could complicate things with a new employer; if you have to do a medical questionnaire you will have to mention it which may put them off employing you. Also, if a reference asks old employer for number of days sick, its going to look bad.
What might be better is to speak to your bosses, explain the situation and see if you can go early.
I think you need to look deep down and ask yourself if the situation is making you stressed to the point of illness. A lot of people jump on the 'stress' bandwagon as a bit of an easy route out which makes people who are geuninely ill, look bad.

I'd be wary of doing this as you don't want 28 days of sickness stuck on your record, especially not for stress which will ring alarm bells for some employers who will be concerned that you are the sort of person who can't deal with any stress whatsoever. Remember sickness stays on your record for ages (I had to list my sickness days for the last 5 years when I applied for my current jobs) and if you lie about it and are found out you are in trouble.
Could you not just grit your teeth & get on with it for a month? That's what I had to do in my last job and it does go quicker than you think.
