My light switch has a red light on the front that lights up when the ceiling light in the cupboard room behind is on. I have had to replace the switch and now the red light on the switch stays on all the time even when the light itself is off - HELP PLEASE!

Me thinks you've wired it wrong - if it is the type I'm thinking of - double pole with neon lamp - sounds like you've wired the load on the wrong side of the switch. If I'm correct, there are 4 terminals on the back of the switch plus earth - two live and two neutral - the light should be wired on the load side.

Thanks - Unfortunately I am a complete novice. It is a double pole - I have 2 Red wires going into the top L and one in the bottom L and 2 Black in the top N and 1 in the bottom N. Is this not correct?
The live supply to the switch goes into the L live in and the neutral supply goes to the N neutral in - the other L terminals are for the load side of th switch eg. your light in the cupboard - sounds like you'vethe load on the supply side of the switch - if your are not sure get a competent person to look at it for you.
