Any one know what a rough cost would be for a structual engineer,
Its for a loft conversion on a three bed semi, building permission has been granted by the council, but while going through building regulations, they have asked for a structual engineers report.
Many Thanks

if you think about it what professional will give an insured written report on a problem too awkward or difficult for a builder to commit himself to.
my problem was about differential settlement between the house(50 yrs old) and an extension (30 yrs old).when i complete his recommendations and prove them by photography i will receive a follow up /clearence report for 90.
beginning to see how it costs so much? the fees are probably recommended by a body/soceity like the RICS

But he's not after a survey - he's after a specific set of calculations done on a specific area of the house to show what size the joists should be strengthened to. I'm assuming the plans show the size of the existing joists (would have to to submit to BC), but BC want the structural calcs done on the job. Its a desk-top exercise for a SE, sat in his office.
