Taxed and NI'd on SMP...

Hi all. Found out on Monday that I'm nearly 8 weeks pregnant. My son will be 6 in December so it was quite a while ago!

Just wondered re: SMP. It says on the direct.gov website: 'Maternity Pay is treated as normal pay so your employer will also deduct tax and National Insurance as usual.' Is this SMP or a different thing? If it is SMP what would you come out with a week then?

To answer your question i think NI is paid after a threshold of about �100 so would not be paid if you were just on statuatory maternity of �108. Tax would depend of your tax code but doubtful itd be due.

if getting 90% of wages via your employer then you will need to pay tax and NI just as you would on your wages.

My figures are likely to be incorrect because its a while since i did payroll and i only took 2 weeks off after giving birth so i didnt get any maternity pay.

Yep - honeymoon baby! Can't believe it, we really thought it wouldn't happen so soon but we are ecstatic though. Our son keeps talking to and cuddling my tummy. So cute.

Thanks but unfortunately I miscarried. It didn't develop past 5 weeks. We were absolutely gutted but it obviously wasn't meant to be. We've still got our son though and he's fantastic. We can always try again...
