a book from school

I am trying to remember the name of 2 books I read at school.

the first was definitely about an abusive incestuous relationship between an uncle and his niece, possibly set in America.

the second, possibly set in England was about bullying and I think the boy may have drowned himself at the end.

Any ideas?

first one sounds a bit like lolita

second sounds like im the king of the castle

I don't think the first was Lolita. I believe that was set in the UK and the man was the girl's mother's lodger.

If you don't mind telling us, when did you read them? I mean what year, roughly? And where did you go to school? UK? USA? Europe? It would just help to narrow things down a little.

Uk, prob GCSE text, in 1994-95 ish

Lolita was set in America, Humbert Humbert our anti-hero was indeed little Dolly's mother's lodger, but he married the mother and became Lolita's stepfather. The mother found out, but was killed in a freak accident before she could warn anyone of Humbert's intentions regarding her daughter. He takes Lolita across America on a two-part road trip, followed by a playwright called Clare Quilty, with whom Lolita runs away. Humbert eventually discovers where Lolita has gone, and kills Quilty; Humbert dies in jail awaiting trial for Quilty's murder, Lolita dies in childbirth on Christmas Day.
