i've just read on the news that two thirds of the public would welcome pay-as-you-go waste disposal.
How on earth can this be true? I am part of the public and no one has asked me.

So why should your mum who has hardly any waste at all have to pay the same as you for waste disposal.

Metering is the fairer option.
I like the idea of leaving packaging at the supermarket. We used to take the carrier bags back but since we bought those bags for life we never get any and that has made alot of difference i think.
I get confused with re-cycling cos i am too lazy to read the leaflats but luckily my son is very kean on it all and puts things right lol
I don't know why we put the compacted rubbish to positive effect and build landfills on the coast to act as a barrier to rising sea levels?

gromit - because we both pay our council tax. the bin wagon comes to her house and picks up her bin and empties it, just as often as it does mine, regardless of how much is inside.
What I meant was the quantities balance each other out. The service we both receive is the same. D'ya know what I mean?
I live in Blackpool where we have been one of the areas trialed in the 'chip-and-bin' scheme...............all done, initially, very underhandedly with no public consultation, etc.

All we ever get is the councillors twittering on about the importance of recycling, carbon foot-prints, global responsibility and the like. All very laudible, I'm sure; except......................

................this is the same council who are proposing to have a fantastic (possibly year round) new light and laser display on the promenade to 'enhance' the illuminations.
...........erm, size of carbon footprint for that, anyone ?
Ah, but landfill is paid for by the tonnage deposited and not by the number of houses the wagon has picked up from, so at the moment, your mum subsidises you.

oh right. Well, i'll accept i'm wrong on that then, gromit!

monkeyeyes - I'm from blackpool too! We haven't had our chip activated yet though.
Don't you think the illuminations were looking very tired and shabby last year? I think they did need some improvements, but that's a bit OTT!
