i have just put about 2.5 gallons of diesel in a 3/4 full petrol tank ,the car wont start.what next

You'd best get the ol' Mastercard out and call a mechanic. You'll have to have the engine flushed. Kerchiiing! I did this last year when I borrowed the other half's car. Bloody modern diesel engines with their quiet petrol like noises!

The tank will obviously have to be drained. The Carbouretter (sp>) completely cleaned and possibly the tank and supply lines flushed out.

Easy to say now, but if you realise you have done this whilst at the petrol station, don't even turn the key (as this starts the fuel pump). If you push your car to the side and call the mechanic, you'll be looking at a cheaper job as the wrong fule won't have got as far through the system.
